About the Winery
What began as a festive occasion in 1996, where three barrels of grapes were stomped with feet, led to the establishment of the first micro-winery in the Western Cape in 1997. The focus was on Pinot Noir. In 2007, when Catherine Marshall's wines were marketed worldwide, she decided to shift her attention to Elgin. In this cool climate, both white and red wines are produced, characterized by a fresh and aromatic style.
Catherine Marshall Wines is the first wine range in South Africa named after a female winemaker.
Vineyard and Region
The grapes come from five different locations in the Elgin Valley.
Vinification
The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation in 225 and 300-liter barrels. Before bottling, the wine matures in used Burgundy barrels.
Aroma
The nose offers subtle aromas of red currant and white pepper.
Flavor
The taste is pure and clean, with elegant tannins and a refined texture. The finish is long and fruity.
Pairing
Delicious to combine with grilled chicken, poultry, and duck.
