Maintenance of the Grill Plate
The cast iron grill plate is pre-seasoned, but it may show signs of use over time. In that case, it's advisable to re-season the plate. Seasoning is done as follows: first, clean the plate thoroughly with water and dish soap. Then, place the plate in the oven or on the barbecue (160-200 degrees Celsius) and heat the grill plate for at least thirty minutes. Afterward, wipe the plate clean with a cloth or paper towel.
- Next, coat the plate with Crisco, clarified butter, or rice oil, and remove excess oil with a cloth or paper towel.
- Put the plate back in the oven or on the barbecue and heat it for one hour.
- Let it cool and wipe off any excess oil again.
- Once the plate has cooled, apply another thin layer of oil and heat it again for one hour in the oven or on the barbecue.
Now the grill plate is ready for use.
