Maintenance of a Cast Iron Pan

It is important to maintain your cast iron pan properly by seasoning it regularly. This process preserves the pan’s properties and prevents rust.

  • Clean the pan with water and dish soap.
  • Heat the pan in the oven or on the barbecue (160-200°C) for at least 30 minutes.
  • Wipe the pan clean with a cloth or paper towel.
  • Rub the pan with Crisco, clarified butter, or rice oil, and remove excess oil with a cloth or paper towel.
  • Heat the pan again for one hour in the oven or on the barbecue.
  • Let the pan cool and remove any remaining excess oil.
  • Repeat the oiling and heating process once more for optimal results.

NOTE: Do not use sunflower oil for seasoning, as it can cause the pan to become sticky.

After Use

After use, simply clean the pan with water and a few drops of dish soap. The pan is not dishwasher safe.

Maintenance Tips

Tip: If the pan has been left in water for too long and surface rust appears, don’t worry. The rust will disappear when you re-season the pan.
