Maintaining a Cast Iron Pan

To keep your pan in optimal condition, regular seasoning is important. This process creates a natural non-stick layer and prevents rust.

  • Clean the pan with water and dish soap.
  • Heat the pan in the oven or on the BBQ (160–200°C) for at least 30 minutes.
  • Dry the pan with a cloth or paper towel.
  • Rub the pan with Crisco, clarified butter, or rice oil and remove excess fat.
  • Heat the pan again for one hour in the oven or on the BBQ.
  • Allow the pan to cool and wipe off excess fat.
  • Repeat the oiling and heating process once more for best results.

NOTE: Do not use sunflower oil for seasoning, as it can make the pan sticky.

Cleaning After Use

After use, clean the pan easily with warm water and a few drops of dish soap. The pan is not dishwasher safe.

Handy Maintenance Tips

Tip: If the pan has been in water too long and surface rust appears, don’t worry. It will disappear when you re-season the pan.
